Understanding VAT (value-added Tax)

VAT or value-added tax is an indirect tax levied on goods & services. This is paid by the businesses to the government at every step in the supply chain. VAT is generally borne by the end-user or the consumer, wherein the businesses collect the tax and pay it to the government. Every business must register for VAT to pay the tax collected from consumers to the government. The Standard Value Added Tax in UAE is 5%, which is applicable for most of the goods and services except a few (exemptions). VAT is managed and collected by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
